As crocheters, we often like to gift our makes and from time to time we even craft for donations to different organizations like Warm Up America, the Linus Project, etc. Every October, Sweet Potato 3 hosts a wonderful event called the Crochet Cancer Challenge. A new pattern is available for free each day during the month, and each download is a pledge to donate a hat to your local cancer charities! Today, Oct 30th, 2026, is my feature day and you can download the One More Memory Cap free! This promotion is available through end of day on Monday, November 2nd.
The inspiration for my design is from my sweet friend who lost her dad to prostate cancer this year. When talking with her earlier in his cancer progression, she had told me that they were always focusing on making one more memory with him. Sometimes a cancer diagnosis isn’t one that truly allows someone to fight, and the better place to put energy and focus is on giving and receiving love instead. Each memory matters and keep them close to your heart!
This pattern is worked in easy rows. The stitch pattern is my current obsession, which is like a front loop only linen stitch. It gives the pattern great texture but easy stretch. I like to use slip stitches on one side of the hat to help make the top less bulky when you cinch it. It’s like magic!

Notes
- Sizing is denoted in ( ) as follows: child (teen/adult small, adult medium, adult large)
- Pattern is worked flat in rows and seamed at the end.
- Stitch counts are marked at the end of each round with [ ]
- Finished dimensions: 18 (19, 20, 21) in around.
- The sc FLO will be worked into the ch-1 from the previous row. This loop is easy to find because it sticks up a bit.

Many of the patterns from this event are available free all month long, so there are still other patterns you could get as well. Head over to the main blog post and look through them. Remember that each download is a pledge to donate a hat!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog today! I hope you like the pattern and that you enjoyed crafting in community this month!
