I adore the Christmas season, and I love bringing a bit of holiday magic to the summer with this fun Christmas in July event from The Crochet Village! I designed this cute crochet gingerbread earring pattern as a quick pattern to make for the season.

About the event:
This event is hosted by The Crochet Village! There is a new free download everyday as well as some of the past patterns at a discoun! It’s a great way to get some ideas for the season ahead. I was just at Michael’s and they are already starting to clearance some of the warm weather yarns, so I bet their shelves will be filled before we know it with cozy yarns and seasonal colors. Check back through the blog hop post so you can see all the previous patterns if you have missed some and look ahead to what is coming next, but first go to the blog post for the discount code to get these Gingerbread Earrings free today only! Then, hop on back and scroll to the bottom to redeem the code in ravelry!
Supplies
- size 10 crochet thread in brown (20 yds) and white (5 yds)
- crochet hook 1.5 mm
- tapestry sewing needle, smaller tapestry needle as well
- scissors and measuring tape/gauge ruler
- earring findings: studs or fish hook style as preferred (optional: glue)
- fabric stiffener
Abbreviations (US Terms)
ch = chain
st/sts = stitch/stitches
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
Gauge Swatch
Gauge is not really necessary for this pattern. Personally, I find the smallest hook I can handle for the thread size (for earrings) produces the best, tightly stitched look. If you desire to gauge swatch: after round 1, your work should measure .25 in across the short side of the oval shape.
Notes
Stitch counts are marked in ( ) at the end of each round.
Finished Measurements
1 in by .75 in
Written Instructions
Round 1: With brown thread, ch 5, 2 sc 2nd ch from hook, sc next 2 chs, 2 sc last ch. DO NOT TURN. Continuing on the other side of ch: 2 sc first ch, sc next 2 chs, 2 sc last ch, sl st to first sc to join. (12 sc, 1 sl st)
Round 2: {Ch 4, sc 2nd ch from hook and each of the next 2 chs,} sl st next 4 sts, repeat { } 1 time, then sl st next st, ch 1, [hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sl st] in same st, sl st next st, repeat { }, sl st next 4 sts, repeat { }, sl st next st. (12 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 11 sl st)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Detail options:
Use white thread to make small frosting stripe on each arm/leg, either three small stitches or one large stitch. One large stitch is recommended if you are using fish hook style earrings as there will be less noticable threads on the back with that method.
Using a small amount of white paint is another option.
Please note that the PDF available on ravelry includes a stitch chart and a few additional photos.
After my feature day on July 15th, you can still get these earrings for a discount at 50% off through the rest of the blog hop! I decided to add my other two Christmas earring patterns to the coupon, in case you don’t already have these ones! They are the Christmas Wreath Earrings (my favorite) and the Sassy Snowflake Earrings. No code needed for this discount.
One of my testers for this crochet gingerbread earring pattern added buttons to hers and that is so cute! I believe she just made a French embroidery knot to make the buttons with crochet thread. If they are a bit too difficult with being so tiny for you, try using a CYC 3 yarn to practice and then move back down to a crochet thread. You could also make them with a fingering yarn and that would make a cute dangly earring style. I think it would be too large for a stud, however. Anyway, enjoy the blog hop event, go on back and check out all of the great patterns. So far I downloaded a beautiful star coaster pattern myself! I’m sure you will find something you’ll be really excited to make.
